Testimonials

“One of the fastest, most effective, and most empowering ways to [take back your health] is to take back your kitchen by preparing whole foods-based, fresh, unprocessed meals that satisfy and delight your taste buds while healing your body. This book is an important step in that direction.” From the foreword by Aviva Romm, MD, author of The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution

Lisa and Jill have created one of the most amazing food education and recipe books I’ve ever seen. Yes, the recipes are beautifully photographed and mouthwateringly delicious, but just as important, every ingredient is chosen with intention for the cleanest, highest good for both the thyroid and the planet. This information is presented in a clear and accessible way and this cookbook will be a staple in my pantry.

Jill and Lisa have made The Essential Thyroid Cookbook as beautiful as it is beneficial for those with hypothyroidism. It respects and honors that each of us has different journeys, experiences, and preferences, and it’s a must-have for anyone with Hashimoto’s.

There are two significant parts to healing the thyroid – one is food and the other is lifestyle. This book provides a beautiful way to bring the two together. The Essential Thyroid Cookbook provides healthy and tasty recipes that can be prepared quickly and seamlessly, allowing for the needed time away from extensive meal preparation to rebalance and heal your life — the best of both worlds!

Deanna Minich, PhD, author of Whole Detox

With all the noise surrounding health and wellness, The Essential Thyroid Cookbook provides a clear message for optimizing the health of your thyroid and immune system. Lisa and Jill have overcome their own struggles with Hashimoto’s by using food as medicine and these challenges have allowed them to create this tool to help lift and guide others on their wellness journey. With this cookbook, food can be your medicine, too.

People with thyroid issues — like me — need to pay special attention to what we eat. But no one wants to think about nutrition all the time! We want to eat. Live happy lives. And enjoy our food. The magic of this cookbook is that the recipes are designed to improve your health and support thyroid function — but that's all invisible. You can just eat, drink, and be merry.

Melissa Joulwan, author of the bestselling Well Fed cookbook series

A monumental achievement! This book belongs in the kitchen of not only every person with a thyroid problem, but in addition, all of their genetic relatives. Great nutritional information, at last.

Richard L. Shames, MD, author of Thyroid Power and Thyroid Mind Power

What a relief it was to read Jill and Lisa’s Essential Thyroid Cookbook. It echoes my approach to a functional nutrition approach to thyroid health — honoring not just the fact that we each have different and unique dietary needs to start, but also to maintain, on our healing journeys. I’ll be using and recommending this cookbook regularly.

Andrea Nakayama, Functional Medicine Nutritionist & Educator

Lisa and Jill take a practical approach to the evidence and the kitchen. People with hypothyroidism who want to use food as medicine need to know the "why" and the "how to." This cookbook is it!

Leigh Wagner, PhD, RDN, Integrative Dietitian

There is no one right way to eat! This is what I tell all my nutrition clients and what I love most about Lisa and Jill’s cookbook. The Essential Thyroid Cookbook is just that —essential. It’s full of great science-based information that reviews nutrition guidelines that work for everyone with thyroid and immune imbalances. But it also presents various concepts along with delicious, practical recipes to help tailor which way of eating works best for you.

Maggie Ward, MS, RD, LDN, Nutrition Director at Dr. Mark Hyman's UltraWellness Center

After seeing thousands of clients over the last decade, it became obvious that foods were the primary cause of their autoimmune thyroid diseases. When junk foods were replaced by whole foods, and reactive foods like gluten and dairy were eliminated, antibodies would often normalize and autoimmunity would vanish. It’s refreshing to see that Lisa and Jill have come to the same conclusions while conjuring up some wholesome and tasty solutions in The Essential Thyroid Cookbook. There’s nothing more powerful or effective for thyroid disease than delicious medicine!

I tested the Grass-Fed Beef and Quinoa Meatballs out on my family and I cannot believe my child knowingly ate quinoa – and loved it! These were easy to make, looked like 'traditional' meatballs, and tasted delicious! Will definitely make again and freeze some next time.

The Spinach, Strawberry, and Asparagus Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Vinaigrette is the perfect salad to bring in the spring season! I loved the light and lemony dressing paired with the strawberries (I always love the look of poppyseeds scattered throughout a dish). The toasted pecans added a perfect warmth and crunch to this refreshing salad. I will be making this again and often.

I actually thought I was not going to like the Golden Cauliflower "Rice" based on the simplicity of ingredients. It is such an excellent combination of sweet, fresh, nutty, (and add in a curry adjective). I thought I was going to need to add more ghee for it to cook 5 minutes, but I didn't (I guess I am used to over-using ingredients and its nice to have it just right). I am actually going to make this again this week because I want my mom and sister to try it – it's so good! Another A+ – you guys are hitting these out of the park.

The Curried Sweet Potato Hummus made my taste buds squeal with delight! The flavor was lovely, almost sweet with the curry bringing it home! I found the consistency comforting and nurturing. I love making hummus, this is my new favorite!

My kids are picky about muffins, but we loved the Grain-Free Almond Banana Flax Muffins!! Instructions were easy to follow and I like that you give different options for the oil and "sugar". Yum!
